Anthropology Arts is an enrichment program that provides unique arts based cultural studies classes to youth across New York City. Our goal is to expose young people to the cultural traditions, voices and histories of people that are often left out of traditional classroom settings and social studies curriculum.
Our team of progressive educators seeks to foster youth exploration and build a sense of community with each unique group we work with. We build our own culture and ensure that kindness and tolerance are at the forefront of everything we do. Youth voice and choice are central to every activity.
Our arts based activities are always process over product, giving youth space to problem solves and create their own work. Educators guide youth to find their own answers and determine how they want to work with materials available.
Our classes rarely have issue with behavior and we know this has to do with the DNA of our classes. Not only are youth highly engaged in project work but they feel a sense of belonging and safety in the class. We are totally strength based and #ProWeird and #ProNerd all day!

Taylor Vecchio, Executive Director
Taylor Vecchio is a progressive educator who has worked in youth development for over 14 years. After spending much time creating and running programs at CUNY Lehman College, Jumpstart, Groundwork Inc. and Harlem RBI, Taylor decided to develop unique classes and consulting services that reflect her interdisciplinary skill set and personality. Voices Advance gives Taylor the opportunity to develop and teach anthropology classes for young people that highlight the rich culture and achievements of communities often left out of the typical school day social studies curriculum. She taps into her strategic thinking and planning skills by working with her staff of educators to offer consulting services such as curriculum writing and development, observation and coaching, program design, professional development trainings, talent management and quality improvement. Taylor also partners with museums as a curriculum writer and school group educator. She holds a BA in Anthropology and an MA in Social Studies Education. Always a lifelong learner, Taylor is currently working on learning Mandarin, reading 53 books this year (one per week plus + 1!) and researching methods to empower female students to proudly advance their voices in all walks of life.
